I love the Brits. Their humor is just so much fun and funny. Like the tube announcements, the personal ones. Not to forget the unforgettable “Mind the gap” And these good adds (not funny, but clever and thoughtful). This time I covere quite a distance by tube and partially by bus (as a tour), from the West to the East, but also South of the river. I went to see great places and everything worked fantastically. Transportation was awesome, and I never hit any rush hour, luckily. On Portobello market, which is huuuge, and I walked it all, I found a few interetsting stands with handicraft and wonderful other antique things. I bought a fantastic silver magnifier to use as reading glasses (was looking for that for long), over 100 years old (photo later). And I bought one of these small discs. They are about the size of a CD and I think we never had those in Germany.
Some are with music, and the silver ones were like the first ones where you could record your own voice. Amazing. Bought a small one an am excited to see/hear, if it plays on my record player at home.
That stand had other amazing and new to me old stuff. Will post more later. Unfortunately, posting from a ship is not a good option. Too expensive/little internet, too little time, by far… J
And too many many photo albums and theme posts, will do all that when home. #businesstravel J Off for a short trip to England. I like to fly #germanwings – I still do get my tomato juice there 🙂 (if my client books the „smart“ option). Food and luggage allowance please, when I job-travel! I might opt differently when I go adventure travelling privately.
Funny luggage cart upon arrival at #lhr #t5 (some b-day present for the Queen, I didn´t really stop to read). The shuttle which always takes me FROM the airport. So far, I was used to a huge troop of colleagues arriving together with me, some bus load filled with us seamen.
Nice surprise when coming aboard… But then: Triple! Well, hooray then, ladies 🙂
Outside we mingled with the guests who had a great sailaway time
And this is how it really was ;).
I followed the information from the cemetery website to get from #heathrow to #highgate and walked through the beautiful #waterlowpark. It was overcasted but warm – and not raining which is considered good weather somehow… After I had chosen to not enter the cemetery, my attention was caught by the opposite residencial area „Holly Lodge Estate“ (?).
So happy with my choice and decision to drop off my luggage and ride the #tube forth and back (!) on my actual #heathrow waiting time, until my flight home: We got such an amazing weather at sea these days, really lovely. Wish I was a tourist ;)… We did not have much time in Finland, so we got a nice bus tour. Weather was perfect, and we drove by many sites I had seen during my 4-day visit in 2006. It was lovely to see it all again, good memories :). Now with better weather (though we were there in July) and more people (while in July the city was „dead“, no people in the streets, empty restaurants, no cars). Today it was lively – and just wonderful. The Sibelius monument and one other were new, since I have been there.
Arrived in the capital of Finland this morning.Against all (bad, rainy, windy) weather forecast we are enjoying a beautiful summer day in Helsinki. Now off for a sightseeing tour by bus, after a leisurely walk along the waterfront, including tasting local food: Reindeer, chocolate w licorice, piroggen. What a sight, white and clear blue sky:
I so enjoyed this view! Sitting and watching. Out of this big window. The Swedish coastline passing by. So many little islands, so many colourful cute houses. Some are permanent residencies, others are the weekend house. Lots of swimming and boating. Then later in the evening, I saw our funnel´s shadow accompanying us and shadowing the houses ashore for seconds. How used are they to it? Every few hours a short shadow?… Next time I should take binoculars! Did you know that it is allowed to land on other peoples piers? Even to walk through their garden, and camp for one night. But it is locally common and polite, to knock on their door and inform the owners. And behave as a good guest. And the overnight and docking practice is rather for emergencies than for picnic events.
