David Bowie & Ai Wei Wei in Berlin (Martin Gropius Bau)

We were kind of clever, I think. The exhibition opens at 10am, we met at 9.30am. There were two lines and we took the one on the left side of the Martin Gropius Bau, waiting to be let in to look at the actual David Bowie exhibition. Shortly after 10am we were told the max. capacity was now reached. What?? 300. There must have been a few coach loads who came in secretly through a side door…. as in front of me there were approx. 20 people, plus another 20 who came with a prebooked online ticket. It was pretty windy and cold in the shade of the building, but a sunny day and NO RAIN :). We waited an hour and then got in. Very well arranged crowd management of the gallery! Lots of security and guides who arranged the human traffic inside.

The exhibition was fun, interesting and the new-to-me sound system very effective. You get a free audio guide, and as you move along through the many rooms and along the exhibits, the content changes automatically, once you get close to the next monitor/screen. Absolutely amazing, I wish any of my wifi would work that well ever.

After that we visited Ai Wei Wei ´s exhibtion, large and very interesting too.

You pay for both (and all other) exhibitions separately. It is adviseable to do the online ticket, as you get in right away. I can think of another trick to skip the line, but nothing public for here. People who came after us and where in line before 10am needed to wait about 3 hours. When we left, the line was very short. But the exhibition capacity is small, the exhibits are many and the sound system makes you want to listen to it all, it is very entertaining and interesting. I spent 1,5 hours inside the David Bowie exhibition. And only when 3 people leave, 3 can come in, that´s why it takes so long for new guests to be let in, controlled by counting securities (friendly, and very well, as I said before.
